Dermalase IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses carefully controlled flashes of light to target specific areas of the skin. The handpiece contains a xenon lamp and optical filter that produces a powerful, broad spectrum of light ranging from visible light to near-infrared wavelengths (420–1200 nm).
The light is absorbed by naturally occurring pigments and structures in the skin, known as chromophores. These include melanin, haemoglobin and water.
When the light is absorbed, it is converted into heat. This controlled heat targets the desired cells or structures while helping to minimise impact on the surrounding skin. Depending on the treatment, this can encourage changes within the skin or help break down targeted cells.
This process is based on a principle called selective photothermolysis, which essentially means using light energy to selectively heat and treat a specific target.
At your consultation, your skin will be assessed and the appropriate IPL settings and treatment approach will be selected for you.
